The Dash City 2009 North team has competed at various levels, against both boys and girls, and in a variety of competition throughout a successful 2020-21 season. Indoor, futsal, 9v9, and 11v11 were all part of the development pathway provided within the club against some of the best competition at events across the country, including the Plano Labor Day Cup, Veterans Cup, Dallas Texans Fall Festival, Premier Copa and Premier SuperCopa.

In June, the Dash ’09 team capped their season by playing up a level in the U-13 age group (2008 birth year) during the USYS Southern Regional Championships in Greenville, South Carolina. This allowed the players to experience a much more physical level of competition in preparation for competing in the Girls Academy beginning this fall.

"The team played up in the U-13 age group at a standard that exceeded my expectations, and I am extremely proud of them," said head coach Willie Fowlkes. "They have a tremendous future and I look forward to following them as they represent our 2009 age group at the next level in the Girls Academy league."

The experience gained wasn’t just about competing at a higher level but winning as well, as they topped Bracket A with two wins and a draw for 7 points against older competition from Tennessee, North Carolina and Mississippi. The team followed it up with a 2-0 victory over Savannah United Select (GA) in the quarterfinals before falling 1-0 to the eventual U-13 Southern Regional Champions, Team Boca (FL).

“The Southern Regional tournament was so much fun," said Dash ’09 player Baylee Corcoran. "My team and I got to play some of the best teams from the south. I also got to spend a lot of time hanging out with my friends.”

The team-building and experience on and off the field in South Carolina this summer will hopefully serve this rising team well as they continue their development entering the Girls Academy league in the fall.

"Going to the USYS Regionals was a great experience for our daughter. It really showed the level of competition that we should expect to face routinely in the future and gave the team exposure to different types of game strategies," said Mike Lafollette, father of Dash ’09 player Melody. "We are excited that the girls reached the semifinals and are looking forward to continued success. USYS produced a fantastic tournament dealing with weather that created unique challenges to get the games played."
