web_081321_ABAM_16x9

Dynamo | Dash Youth Soccer Club is proud to announce that club alumnus Michaela Abam has signed a professional contract with the Houston Dash, making her the first player from our club to sign with the Dash first team.

“Home at last—so grateful to have the opportunity to represent my city after so many years away, and be apart of Dash and the organization. Definitely a testament to have my graduating club (Texas Rush) now the Dash Academy, and expand the opportunity ratio for our younger girls in the community to be apart of a club that continuously raises their standards in a competitive environment, " said Abam"I may be the first Houstonian born and raised to be with the club at the moment, but I know for sure I won’t be the last!”

“We are incredibly proud of Michaela – both as a player and a person – and look forward to welcoming her back home to Houston. The opportunity for current and future Dash Academy players to see someone who was once in their exact position now take the field at BBVA Stadium is truly special,” said Dave Dengerink, Dash Academy Director. “Michaela has continued to be a great supporter of Dynamo | Dash Youth as an alum, and our entire club family is excited to be here to support her and her career.”

Abam progressed from our club to West Virginia University, where she scored 42 goals with 16 assists from 2014-17. She was selected by Sky Blue FC with the 4th overall pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft, and has spent time playing abroad in France and Spain before this return home.

As the official Academy affiliate of the Dash, we look forward to many more following Michaela’s path from our club to the Dash first team to pursue their professional dreams.

Michaela has been and continues to be a tremendous ambassador for our club, and we are delighted to see her dedication, skill, and humility back in our community.

Ellen Persson - Sweden Pre-season Training Camp

Posted on August 21, 2020 BY Simon Boddison

Ellen Persson - Girls Academy '04
Persson Head Shot

Kvarnsvedens IK

Sweden

The club reached out to Ellen to ask some questions regarding her exciting trip to Sweden after having recently returned from training with Kvarnsveden which is a professional team located in Borlänge / Dalarna County.

Kvarnsveden1

Q.  Which club did you train at and for how long during the summer?
A. I trained with the club Kvarnsveden’s u19 team in Borlänge, Sweden. Their first week of training back was my last week in Sweden, so I was able to go to 3 practices. My plan is to practice with them again next summer.

Persson Action 1

Q. What did you find different training in Sweden with a professional team than training with the Houston Dash?
A. I noticed there was a technical emphasis in their practices and all the players were very skilled. They also worked tactically and let the players find their own solutions to different situations that might happen in a game.

Ellen Florida Showcase Dec2018

Q.  What were the most challenging things that you incurred while training overseas?
A. I found the language was challenging at first because I didn’t know some soccer terms in Swedish like “man on”, but they helped me and I learned quickly.

Persson Action

Q. What did you enjoy about the experience of training with the club?
A. I liked meeting the players and coaches, they were really friendly. I thought it was super fun to be able to play with players my age from another country and to see what the quality was like, which ended up being really good. I also liked the chilly temperature😊.

Kvarnsveden2

Q. What are your expectations for the new fall season with the Dash?
A. Train hard and have good competition.

Q. If there’s any advice for the younger female players in the club, what would this be?
A. Always work hard and have fun.

“Ellen has been an integral part of our program and the 04 GA team.  We are happy and excited that she got an opportunity to train with Kvarnsveden. We know that this will continue to push her development on and off the field.” Omar Morales, Girls Academy Head Coach.

“Being able to represent Mexico on the senior level is a huge honor and a goal I’ve been working towards for a very long time. Texas Rush (Houston Dash) has prepared me from a very young age for big moments such as this.  I am super grateful for everything that the coaching staff has done for me these past few years!”  Emily Alvarado, Houston Dash Youth (Texas Rush) | TCU Senior | Mexico WNT.

"Emily joined our program at 15 years of age.  Within the first few times of seeing her play, it was obvious she had potential to reach the highest level.  Her technical and athletic ability were clear.  However, it was her personality that set her apart.  She was extremely committed to the process of development.  The opportunities she has had with TCU and Mexico Women’s National Team are very much deserved based on years of hard work and dedication.  I know we will see her at BBVA soon.”  Andrew Squire, Houston Dash Girls Development Academy (former coach).

Richard Pardo Leon - Puerto Rico Soccer Federation Hall of Fame Class 2019

Posted on December 09, 2019 BY Simon Boddison

Screen Shot 2019-12-08 at 9.59.56 AM

Name: Richard Pardo Leon
Position: Right Forward 1972-1994
DOB: June 7, 1961 in Santurce, Puerto Rico
Parents: Angelo Pardo and Emma Pardo
Teams: Remanso FC, Southern Methodist University

"It is an honor to have been recognized and inducted for the Puerto Rico Soccer Federation Hall of Fame. The feeling is indescribable. I was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico where I started playing soccer at the age of 13. I played for El Remanso Futbol Club. I was very fortunate to be trained by professional Colombians from the Millonario FC. I developed and grew as a player to the point that I was noticed by the National Team scouts.I had the privilege and honor to play for the Puerto Rico national team where I attended to different international soccer events such as CONCAF, CARIBBEAN CUP, CENTRAL AMERICAN GAMES and the PAN AMERICANS GAMES. I was scouted and recruited by Southern Methodist University (SMU) where I also played and graduated with a BA.For the love of the game I decided to become a Coach / teacher and obtained my coaching licenses. Presently, I am coaching with one of the best clubs in the nation, Dynamo | Dash Youth Soccer Club." Richard Pardo Leon, Dynamo | Dash Staff Coach.

 Puerto_Rican_Football_Federation

National Idol. Great forward that never lost a ball, is remembered as one of the greatest offensive players in the history of Boricuan Soccer. A great part of his career was played for Remanso FC.

Successful winner. Thousands of Puerto Rican players could envy the amount of joy that Richard (better known as Richie) was able to celebrate in his impeccable career as a national and professional player. Pardo Leon, was a constant marker without letting the opponent think, deployment and perseverance to recover the ball and the orderly exit in the defensive area. Although he also had an obsession to play the ball well and deliver it accurately to his teammates. Something that most of the time he achieved and in that I never disappoint any of their national coaches.

He was the tool that any coach wanted in his scheme, the reliable player with a winning spirit. In between 1972 and 1994, Pardo Leon fought hundreds of sports battles wearing the shirts of Remanso FC (Puerto Rico), Clubs of Dallas, TX, Clubs of Houston, TX and Southern Methodist University (ranking top 10 of the nation 1979-1983), in national tournaments and in international competitions with the national team of Puerto Rico.

Right forward, nothing more or nothing less than a true winner. He knew how to take advantage of his position by his stature of 5'7 and enjoy a moment where the conquests were a common denominator and important.

"We are all so incredibly proud of Coach Richie and would like to congratulate him and his family for this amazing honor." Randy Evans, Senior Staff / Director of Coaching - Girls.

Michaela Abam - Women's World Cup 2019

Posted on July 06, 2019 BY Simon Boddison

Houston, Texas (July 6, 2019) – The Houston Dynamo | Dash Youth Soccer Club (HDDY), a nationally recognized premier soccer club for boys / girls, recently had the pleasure of interviewing Michaela Abam, a former player of the club, West Virginia University and the Cameroon Women's National Team.

Screen Shot 2019-07-04 at 4.37.58 PM

Michaela had this to say on her experience of playing in the Women's World Cup 2019 in France:

"Playing in the FIFA Women’s World Cup; a dream of an experience I will never forget for the rest of my life. To be growing up playing within the US Youth National Teams and always having the expectation of growing within the system to one day end up playing with the red, white and blue; to now representing my country of origin in the highest stage of football possible was such a huge honor. There were the good moments in the matches, and for sure moments I watch my film on knowing, 'this needs to be a lot better'. That’s the beauty in the game, you can always continue to grow, you’re never 'too good' or 'too far up' not to!"

Screen Shot 2019-07-04 at 4.37.42 PM

Five top take-a-ways:

The take-a-ways I took from this experience that definitely helped me grow during the tournament, as well as what will stick with me for the rest of my life, were based on:

  1. My mental space
  2. Psychological aspect
  3. Ambiance of the stage
  4. Overwhelming challenges that came on and off the field
  5. Remembering what keeps me going through it all—my family, background, struggles, fight and my perseverance

Screen Shot 2019-07-04 at 4.36.59 PM

"All these things combined really helped navigate me through the good and bad that went on during the tournament that helped me truly grow as a player, and more so as a person. It’s crazy to think, but all those days in club, the extra days that work had to be put in, all the fitness testing, the two a days that consisted of an equal ratio of sweat and tears, all the “sorry, I can’t. I have soccer,” messages that had to be sent when my football had to come first before anything else.  It was after remembering, feeling and going through all this, that I knew putting in all that time I would never get back into this passion of mine, was all worth it to bring me into this dream based reality of mine that will forever be priceless."

Screen Shot 2019-07-04 at 4.37.15 PM

"I’m so grateful and thankful for everyone who was involved in this experience and all my experiences along the way. My family, close friends, all the coaches throughout my whole life, the teammates I’ve been blessed to have along the way that have helped me work to be not only a better player, but a better Michaela. The best part about it all, is that it is just the beginning. I can’t wait to see what else is in store in what’s to come!"

The club like to congratulate, recognize and thank Michaela for the time she took out of her busy schedule to provide her personal insight on playing in the World Cup 2019.  She continues to be a first class roll model who is extremely humble when speaking on her club, college and professional career.

Dash Host Kingwood Youth Players

Posted on June 20, 2019 BY Simon Boddison
Houston, Texas (June 15, 2019) – The Houston Dynamo | Dash Youth Soccer Club (HDDY), a nationally recognized premier soccer club for boys / girls, continues to sees huge beneficial results in partnering with the Dash (NWSL) professional organization.

On June 14, players from the Dash Youth Kingwood Program attended a Houston Dash training session to observe the players as they prepared to play against Orlando Pride. Coach James Clarkson stopped by shortly before practice to introduce himself to the girls and welcomed them to training. The girls took much away from the experience, with the highlights being, the intensity, attitude and quality of the play. After practice, several Dash players took the time to interact with the girls and thanked them for coming to watch them train.

Josh

"I would like to thank to the Dash Organization, especially Coach James Clarkson, all the Dash players, Jay Adelberg (Youth Sales Manager) and Stephen Goldsmith (Club Representative) for their hospitality."  Josh Smith, Director of Coaching - Kingwood Girls.

Josh1

“What I took away from the DASH practice is how much fun they have during their warmup interacting with each other but when it is time for them to focus, they get serious immediately.  I appreciated their intensity and the work ethic was amazing.” Addison Gray, Dash Youth Kingwood 06.
